Yves Saint Laurent was born as Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent on August 1st, 1936 in Oran, French Algeria. He is an Algerian-born French designer. He is considered to be one of the 20th century’s greatest designers. Yves Saint Laurent was discovered in 1954 when he entered into the International Wool Secretariat contest, he won first place for his asymmetrical cocktail dress designs. He is famous for his "Le Smoking" tuxedo jacket, see-through blouses, peasant blouses, bolero jackets, pantsuits, and smocks. Yves Saint Laurent worked for Christian Dior (another famous French designer) from 1954 -1960. Yves Saint Laurent died of brain cancer in his Paris home on June 1st, 2008.
